Alan McGee sets up new festival ‘Creation Day’ for 2021

October 21, 2020 by Jamie Parmenter

Creation Day Festival

Fancy a mix of some 90s nostalgia and more recent indie bands? The new Creation Day festival has you covered with big names such as Happy Mondays, Editors, and Ash on the line-up.

Touted as a celebration of the legendary Creation Records label formed by Alan McGee, the event will bring two days of exceptional live music to Wolverhampton West Park in 2021. Running from 29th May – 30th May, headlining the event will be indie dance legends Happy Mondays (Saturday) and Birmingham rockers Editors (Sunday). Other big names making an appearance will be Echo and the Bunnymen, Friendly Fires, Cast, Ash, Sleeper, and Glasvegas.

Alan McGee will be curating the first day of the festival himself. McGee has been in the music industry for the last four decades, setting up his Creation Records label in 1983 and signing the likes of big names such as Primal Scream, The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, and, of course, Oasis.

Speaking about the inaugural Creation Day festival, Alan McGee says: “I’m looking forward to this one, some of the best old bands with some of the best new bands. I can’t wait to come and bring it all to Wolverhampton. Creation Day is the first time we have done anything like this since doing it for the kids. Hopefully, we can do this every year.”

With a big list of contacts and favours to cash in from throughout his time in the music industry, more big names are bound to be added before the event takes place in May 2021, so make sure to keep an eye out on the website for more details.

You can also check out the full lineup and pre-order tickets over at the website. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, be sure to check for any changes to the event that could happen.
