Looking for something unique for the upcoming ‘Record Store Day Drops’ events? As many of you will know, RSD 2020 has been split into 3 events due to the global pandemic. To commemorate this, Crosley, in conjunction with Record Store Day, are releasing a very special, see-through turntable.
This mini transparent Crosley record player is made of clear acrylic so all the inner-gubbins are on full display, making for a unique, vinyl-enthusiast curiosity. It’s able to play 3” discs, and an RSD2020 exclusive bundle couples the turntable itself with two 3” coloured vinyl Post Malone singles – namely Saint Tropez which comes on green vinyl and Goodbyes which comes on red. Powered via USB or battery, the record player also comes with an Audio-Technica cartridge and even has its own, very cute, dust cover.
This isn’t the first time Crosley has delved into the world of mini records. For RSD 2019 a non-transparent version was released and proved a hit with record-lovers. The idea for the product came from Japan where, in the early 2000s, 3-inch records were released and marketed for a short time. Called ‘8ban’ records, they can hold up to around 4 minutes of music per side and actually have a pretty decent build quality for the price.
The Crosley record player will cost around $70/£70 and is already sold out in some online outlets. It will, however, be available in some record stores participating in the RSD Drops events. Check with your local record store for more details and to see if they will be getting any stock in.
