New Music Fridays – 6th December 2019

December 6, 2019 by Jamie Parmenter

Futrue Ghost Main

Welcome to the first New Music Friday of December! No Christmas songs this week (some might creep in nearer to the big day) but we do have four lovely tracks from up and coming bands that really hit home. As always, click the pics to have a listen.

Future Ghost – Took My Chance

Future Ghost

Future Ghost is an Orlando, Florida based project from Kat Albanese and Jake Ellis. Track Took My Chance really shows what the band are about with big catchy hooks, pop-punk leanings and impressive harmonies. Their voices work so perfectly together, almost dancing around each other as the music envelopes your mind and soul. With shades of The Strokes rock mentality and Phoebe Bridgers penchant for wordplay, this duo is going to go far.

Sasha Cay – Archie

Sasha Cay

Montreal singer-songwriter Sasha Cay and her lo-fi folk-rock sound manages to stand out from the crowd. Although simple in structure, track Archie has a lot to say and does so with ease and grace. Cay’s vocals are confident but sweet and innocent as they gradually grow in confidence amongst the rhythms and melodies get stronger and stronger. It’s the perfect winter builder with some really strong background layers that dutifully fade in and out.

Nutrients – Always in Bloom

Another Canadian based group up next with Toronto’s Nutrients. Coming in at only 1 minute and 50 seconds, Always in Bloom does all it needs to in this short space of time with jangly guitars, well-structured melodies and beautiful, breezy vocals provided by lead singer Taylor Teeple. You can almost feel the summer road trip vibe as the atmosphere hazily reminds you of the warm sun on your bare shoulders, even if its the dead of winter.

Remington super 60 – Fake Crush

Fake Crush is taken from Remington super 60s upcoming 6 track EP to be released in January 2020. Featuring a rare fade-in opening, we’re straight away treated to sultry vocals and a walking bassline that pulls the listener forward. It’s simple but effective, creating a 60s mindset somewhere between Nancy Sinatra and Carpenters. The chorus really helps to bring out something special in the track feeling like beauty wrapped in an enigma. Mesmerizing.
