How is it September already?! It’s a new month and what a way to start it we have for you. This week sees an amazing bunch of artists for you to wrap your ears around, from fuzzy 90s indie to beat-heavy retro soul. As always, click the pics to enjoy the music!
BAXTR – Feathers
All-female, D.I.Y, alt-pop rock group BAXTR release the bright and airy stomper, Feathers, inspired by the band’s own journey of self-image and acceptance. With a hint of Pixies in the fuzzy bass, rampant Brit Pop connotations, and a raucous chorus, it’s a true delight to listen to and will be stuck in your head for days. These girls know how to build a song that hits the ground running.
Aaron Taos with spill lab – Loneliness Pt. II
Written whilst going through a rough patch, Loneliness highlights the effect depression has on people in today’s society amongst wonderful vocals and a settled guitar opening. This is then added to with a gently rolling drum beat and sultry vocals from spill lab sliding in to give the track a whole different vibe altogether. Both sets of vocals really lift each other up which is exactly what the track intended. You can’t help but feel revitalised after listening.
The Canvas Collective – Reality Sinner
Taken from debut EP Silence Wants Me But I Don’t Want To Be Quiet, Reality Sinner really sinks into your consciousness. Based on being with one person while lusting for another, it starts off slow and reflective before big guitars and big vocals hit like a freight train. With some great guitar work and a strong ebb and flow, the track really shows two sides to the artist, able to switch the sound at the drop of a hat. Exhilarating stuff.
Sola Rosa – Something Good
Featuring rising artist Thandi Phoenix, Something Good’s beat-heavy, retro-soul sound floats along on a wave of purpose and attitude. With a bass line keeping everything tight, Thandi is allowed to subtly build up her vocals towards a stompingly delightful chorus. Andrew Spraggen, the man behind Sola Rosa, really has a knack for creating the perfect production to accompany a vocal track, allowing them to work off each other in a really unique way. A summary, feel-good track that is impossibly catchy.
