New Music Fridays – 1st July 2022

July 1, 2022 by Jamie Parmenter

Rainbow Girls

What better way to begin July than by finding your new favourite tune? We’ve scoured the music scene once again this week to bring you some of our favourite tracks that have been on repeat at VC HQ. As always, click the pics to have a listen!

Rainbow Girls – Compassion to the Nth Degree

Rainbow Girls

Bay-area trio Rainbow Girls wrench up a passion for those they don’t see eye to eye with on Compassion to the Nth Degree. Said to be a sweet little love song for all the sh*theads out there, the track floats around on a pillow of warm indie fuzziness that flows over your senses in an intimate way. The clever, tongue-in-cheek lyrics are the icing on the cake that finishes off the track nicely.

Ki! – Happy

Ki!

A homage to the magic of mo-town, K! Are helping move the genre forward much like Amy Winehouse did in the 2000s. With wonderfully stylised vocals and a happy, twisting flow, the musicianship boldly and beautifully throws the track forward into a delightful chorus. It’s one of those upbeat tracks you can’t help but tap your foot to and will see yourself coming back to again and again.

Yv Shells – Loss

Loss

Yv’s neo-soul and punk influences are taken to a new and exciting level on Loss. With mesmerising vocal flows and a strong drum track that holds steady, the track is allowed to breathe under its own steam as settled guitar riffs float in and out. It has a creative yet chaotic energy that’s hard to resist and a sound that is strong yet gentle at the same time. Quite the accomplishment.

FRANSIS – Honeymoon

FRANSIS

London-based artist FRANSIS drops her new EP today and the self-titled track Honeymoon is a delight to listen to. Featuring a subtle flow and strong songwriting style, the track revels in hints of 80s pop but is backed up with smooth production and playful lyrics. With an uplifting flow and inventive cut-out sections, the track thrives on a hybrid of energy and guile.
