New Music Fridays – 14th January 2022

January 14, 2022 by Jamie Parmenter

VYNN

I swear that January has never offered so much good music. I mean, check out the tracks below, they’re all awesome. From 90s dance to Americana-infused flows to grungy rock, it’s an eclectic mix but each has its own heart and soul. Click the pics for a listen!

Norsko – Hoppy Felt Happy

Norsko

If you’re looking for a 90s dance-inspired sound with a 40s/50s vocal aesthetic, Norsko has you covered with Hoppy Felt Happy. Reminding of bands such as Lemon Jelly, the track bounces along on a wave of fun, switching in subtle synths and playful layers to build on the uplifting nature of the track. We dare you to not feel happy after listening to this. Go on, give it a try.

Scoobert Doobert – a song to quit your job to

Scoobert Doobert

Scoobert Doobert is back on NMF again and this time bringing us the smooth and sultry beats of a song to quit your job to. Tapping into the cultural trend of reevaluation of what we do with our lives, the track has a downbeat, dreamy vibe and gentle uplifting nature to suit the lyrics perfectly. It describes a situation we’ve all been in/are in, and the caressing nature of the track will help remind you there are lots of others in the same boat. It might even give you that motivation you need to make a change.

VVYNN – Home

VVYNN

Based around losing passion and effort in a relationship, Home is a beautifully energetic track with raucous guitars, bright vocals and really is a fun listen. The bolshy nature of the chorus perfectly contradicts the verses in a passionate way, managing to create a sound that rises and falls in unison with the emotions portrayed. The perfect grungy-pop track to lead you into the weekend.

Tar & Flowers – You Don’t Know How Lucky You Are

Tar

Man, this is a great track. Covering Americana, country, folk, rock and psychedelia, there’s something for everyone. This combination allows the song to build in an interesting way as both acoustic and electric guitars tangle around each other and vocals become more prominent as the drums kick in. WIth a hint of Ennio Morricone, this rounds off an emphatic song that refuses to quit and will have you coming back for more.
