June 20th sees the Love Record Stores online event take fruition in a bid to help struggling independent record stores.
This Saturday (June 20th) sees the much-anticipated 24-hour online event brought to life by the Love Record Stores campaign. Aimed at helping struggling record stores during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, the event will include a plethora of special vinyl releases and reissues available for online purchase. With the backing and cooperation of over 130 record stores throughout the UK, it will also feature live events throughout the 24 hours, starting at 7 am on Saturday.
The list of vinyl releases can now be viewed over at the Love Record Stores website, as well as the lineup for the entire day. Special releases include Tim Burgess’ Oh No I Love You, Thee Oh Sees’ A Weird Exit and The Libertines’ Up The Bracket.
On top of the special vinyl releases, the 24-hour event will also include live DJ sets, performances, interviews and readings with Laura Marling, Fontaines D.C, Mystery Jets and Circa Waves already confirmed to perform. Charities being supported by the event include #SaveOurVenues, Covid-19 Relief Fund and Black Lives Matter
Beginning as the hashtag campaign #loverecordstores started by the vinyl community, the idea snowballed with companies, record stores and music lovers all coordinating ideas and resources in order to keep vinyl record stores alive and offer fans the chance to help save the industry. With the postponement of record store day, the event is a chance for vinyl fans to relish in some special releases and help out those record stores that will be struggling to stay afloat.
This week, UK non-essential shop rules were relaxed meaning that some record stores have now opened for business once again, albeit with measures in place for social distancing. Below is the current list of venues open around the UK provided by Record Store Day, but always check with the store before visiting just in case:
