Ajay Mathur: I Need You Now – Single Review

August 22, 2021 by Jamie Parmenter

Ajay Mathur - I Need You Now

Ajay Mathur unleashes a track of positive pop perfection in the delightfully catchy, I Need You Now.

At a time where we need a bit of positivity and connectedness, Ajay Mathur provides with his track, I Need You Now. With appearances from Sitar and Tablas masters Kayanjot Das and Sandip Banerjee offering up a different vibe to the pop-rock positivity, Mathur shows off his keen writing skills amongst upbeat flows and inviting melodies.

With warm and magical sitars leading into the track, Ajay’s instantly recognisable and perfectly pitched vocals enter the fray, leading the listener on a journey of positivity in mind and connectedness in human relationships. It’s a message we all need right now in a difficult world, and the lyrics place you somewhere where you can’t help but smile: “A celebration, I wish you all the best, let’s come together, bring love and happiness”.

Ajay Mathur - I Need You Now

The positivity throughout is infectious, with Beatles pop elements that are as addictive as the Fab Four at their best. The underlying use of Sitar is just the icing on the cake, offering something different and joining in with the mentality of the track of coming together with your fellow humans, in this case, Mathur’s collaboration with Kalyanjit Das et al.

The harmony vocals of Adriana Husy and Patrizia Scarnato pop up throughout and offer that extra layer of loveliness which the track may feel empty without. This shows Mathur’s keen ear for knowing when to fill the gaps and when to cut back and let the strong melodies do the talking.

I Need To Know from Ajay Mathur is the sound of a talented artist showing off his skill in songwriting. WIth a playful rhythm, fine vocal work and a mix of styles wrapped in a pop-rock underbelly, the track just feels light and airy but hits home hard when necessary.

Score: 4/5
