Pale Waves are always ready to bring the energy back on the hot new album, Who Am I though fun-loving choruses and big messages.
Pale Waves, fronted by singer Heather Baron-Gracie may take you back in time to your old school punk days, but make sure to look around before you practise your epic air guitar moves. A top feature to notice on Who Am I? is the extremely catchy choruses; you can’t help but find yourself singing along to the bands boss-bitch lyrics and the first track Change is no different. This anthem is so bold and high energy that it’s the perfect way to draw you in and have you craving more.
Many of the tracks have a true feel-good nature that moves the album along nicely. Easy and Run To is near impossible not to dance along to and we also get to see a vulnerable side to the band as they share their feelings in aid to inspire and help out their fans. We also see this in album-titled track Who Am I, a song which kicks off with the most gorgeous piano chords and real lyrics which beg for help as Heather realises the severity of her own state of mind.
I Just Needed You goes along with the same premise, toying with the idea that although someone may look like they have everything, they may not be happy. Fame and flashy things will never replace the people you can add to your support system and make you the happiest.
However uplifting songs are, there’s also a prominence for learning with tracks like Tomorrow. Teaching us to never give up and that you will see brighter days even if you don’t think so yourself is a beautiful message that should be spread more. Whilst You Just Don’t Own Me radiates attitude from the very beginning and reminds us that we are better than the toxic people we let into our lives.
Who Am I? is great for bringing energy back into our lives and it’s something that we didn’t know we needed until now. Pale Waves have managed to produce a top tier album yet again and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
