Having grown up with Nick Jonas on our screens and watching him transform from a teen to a successful, independent artist, it is only natural to be excited about what his latest album Spaceman has to show.
With effortless vocals, smooth song transitions and majorly vibrant tracks, Nick has once again managed to pull it out the bag and please his fans. Kicking off the album with Don’t Give Up On Us, his catchy chorus and desirable falsetto are the main stand-out points that seem to reoccur during the album’s progression. However, there is a lot of room for this song to build up and become a great anthem for teens that he somehow misses because the song’s energy seems to remain the same.
It’s easy to think of Nick Jonas as an appealing male icon and the track Heights really heightens this. The hot atmosphere is made the centre of attention with his smooth harmonies, passionate lyrics, and synth progressions.
Synths are used a lot within this album, bringing different styles to his tracks. Spaceman, (which is also the title of the album) uses them to keep the track engaging with lots of different moments; and once the chorus kicks in and the synth and drums work together we are taken into a new dimension and can’t help but enjoy the change of tone.
Delicious carries a funkier atmosphere to the previous tracks as the constant high energy transports you to a summer scene, carelessly enjoying your nights. The song starts with a great bass riff which seems strange as if it continued during the verses it would’ve added that extra flare that this song craves.
There’s also a vulnerable side to Nicks’s tracks. This Is Heaven is all about falling for someone and thinking they are your everything. These passionate lyrics combined with the saxophone section is truly heavenly and can’t be faulted. If I Fall which may sound simple in comparison to the previous songs, but also manages to make you feel even more emotional.
Death Do Us Part is about loving someone even when they are gone and being certain you have found the one for the rest of your life. This honest track is so breathtaking as it ends abruptly, just like life can; a metaphor so strong and powerful yet so simple to achieve. A truly thought out and effective technique.
Spaceman by Nick Jonas is a well-thought-out album and carries some magical moments. We are taken into Nick’s honest thoughts about his relationship and it’s clear to see that he has matured not only musically but personally as well.
