Welcome to November! With the US in the midst of a battle for the Whitehouse and many places in the UK back in lockdown, I think we all need something to lift up the spirits. New Music Fridays has you covered with four tracks that will get you back on the right track. Click the pics for a listen.
TOLEDO – Challenger
The first single from sophomore EP, Jockeys of Love, Challenger is a joyful expression amongst acts of rebellion. Written and tracked while in quarantine, the hazy tones bounce along on a settled drum beats, reminding of warm summer days and a carefree time we can only dream of at the moment. It’s wistful energy suits the vocal tracks well, offering up an indie-surf vibe amongst its docile, lo-fi underbelly.
IZA – Imagine (Prod. by P*NUT)
P*Nut introduces us to IZA in this beautifully produced and eclectic dream-pop wonder. With a hypnotizing intro that leads into tantalising beats and dreamy drops, the track ebbs and flows with a confidence backed up by IZA’s settled vocals. Managing to keep things interesting with added layers and a mix of lofi, ongoing riffs, and uplifting lyrics, Imagine will require a few listens to fully appreciate its beauty.
Duncan Spencer – Silhouettes
Littered with heavy, socio-political subject matter, Duncan Spencer’s deep tones take control of a track begging to be unleashed. Taking a tip from indie bands such as Elbow with strings providing the basis for the track to work from, Spencer unleashes powerful harmonies and a bright chorus that ties it all together. A powerful and well-structured track with a moody and reflective sound.
Lena Anderssen – Aimee
Upbeat Americana is the name of the game with Aimee – the second single from Lena’s upcoming 6th album. The track builds on a folky-indie base, rolling towards a chorus that lifts the mood and raises the spirits. This is exactly the kind of track we need in these troubled times, with Lena’s vocals the perfect mix of authority and fun that really come alive in the chorus. A bright guitar solo finishes the track nicely and makes sure, by the end, you’ll have a big smile on your face.
