New Music Fridays – 6th May 2022

May 6, 2022 by Jamie Parmenter

Allysha Joy

The first NMF of May 2022! This year really is speeding by. It’s lucky we’ve already had so much great music this year and the trend continues with this week’s four picks. Soulful singer-songwriters, gentle indie-pop and more grace our presence this week, so dive in and have a listen by clicking the pics.

Allysha Joy – Calling You

Allysha Joy

Teaming up with the marvellous Ego Ella May for this track, Allysha Joy shows off her unique blend of subtlety and power as the duo trade verses with electrifying style and grace. A rework of Steve Spacek’s classic track and an ode to standing up and speaking out to what matters in the world, a walking bassline draws everything together amongst tailored beats and wonderful harmonies. A must listen.

Tamzene – Dance With you Again

Tamzene

Scottish singer and multi-instrumentalist Tamzene offers up a serene yet sunny sound with new single Dance With You Again. Taken from forthcoming debut EP Details, the track’s gentle nature shouldn’t be misunderstood, with topics of love, childhood memories and wishing for those days gone by being beautifully portrayed. Meandering harmonies and soft synths are littered throughout bringing a warm and inviting edge to the track. Sublime.

Anna Bates – Something Greater

Anna Bates - Something Greater

Los Angeles-based Anna Bates releases the beautifully maligned Something Greater, touching on the personal and dealing with religion, growing pains and death. The track almost feels like therapy for the singer as the sound gently grows to be an all-encompassing piece that delves into your soul and refuses to let go. It’s one of those tracks you can listen to over and over again and always find something new.

Alta Falls – Trust Me

Alta Falls - Trust Me

Combining masterful lyricism and double entendres with a newfound sense of conviction, Trust Me by Alta Falls doesn’t fail to impress. Amongst tailored, indie-inspired beats and roaming keyboard sounds, the track suddenly hits hard in the chorus and opens up a brand new world. A wonderfully poignant flow that is perfect to bring in the weekend.
