New Music Fridays – 29th January 2021

January 29, 2021 by Jamie Parmenter

Music By KOTA

As we come to the end of the first month of 2021, the musical output is starting to ramp up in a really good way. This week’s choices are full of character and beauty that show off the strength, energy, and songwriting abilities of some great artists. As always click the pics for a listen.

Music By KOTA – Lucy

Music By Kota - Lucy

Soulful, playful, and relatable, Lucy from Music By KOTA delves into your soul and refuses to let go. Beautiful melodies and strong vocal work float along on the bluesy rock sound that can be enjoyed by anyone, anywhere, at any time. The track makes its way through different styles and gracefully nails each one, bending it into the overall folky tones. A pleasure to listen to.

Is Tropical – Hummingbird

Is Tropical - Hummingbird

London-based electro-pop group Is Tropical throw their synth-laden dance-rock our way with all the fervour and guile of a band way further ahead in their career. With hints of Damon Albarn’s side-project The Good, The Bad & The Queen, the track saunters forward amongst tight drum beats, intriguing sounds, and spacey vocals. There really is nothing to not like about this track.

billianna – Love and Other Drugs

billianna - Love and Other Drugs

Based around becoming addicted to someone when they are addicted to other things and other people, billianna really puts her heart on display for everyone to see on track Love and Other Drugs. With hints of Laura Marling in style but with more of a mystical wisp of energy, billianna takes us on an emotional journey of complex feelings and hard topics. Mesmerising

Samuel Jack – Better Days

Samuel Jack - Better Days

Soulful yet melancholy, bright yet warm, Samuel Jack brings to life a beautifully layered track in Better Days. Knowing when to pull back and also hit home hard, the backing vocals really show another side to the song when leading into the chorus. The way the track feels like it becomes an entity of its own is thanks to the powerful vocal performance that drives everything forward.
