New Music Fridays – 11th February 2022

February 11, 2022 by Jamie Parmenter

Melanie MacLaren

Welcome all to the weekend! As you sign off on your computers and lay down your tools, take a moment to check out the tunes below and give some up-and-coming artists some support! As always, click the pics for a listen!

Melanie MacLaren – Deep Dark Sleep

Melanie MacLaren

Touted as a haunting, meditative modern folk song, Deep Dark Sleep is a hypnotic, ambient masterclass. MacLaren’s vocals do wonderfully well to contain the track and take command where necessary, perfectly dancing on the rhythms and growing in strength during the chorus. Relaxing and eloquent in equal measure.

Philipp Makolies – Leave and Stay

Philipp

With a gentle yet bright flow, Leave and Stay pushes forward on warm acoustic guitar and an ethereal atmosphere that builds against the elegant vocals. With expertise in production that allows the harmonies to hit beautifully, the track has an essence of Simon and Garfunkel about it with a steady drumbeat that holds it all together. Timeless.

Laura Elliott – Better Off Alone

Laura Elliot

Written about her first heartbreak after coming out of high school, Laura Elliott’s Better Off Alone is gentle and caressing but still has the power to hit home through the deep and emotional lyrics. The chorus is perfectly layered and has the right mix of catchiness and essence to help it stand out. A great listen.

Ralfy – Pizza

Ralfy

Hitting like a freight train, Pizza by Ralky cranks up the guitars before settling down into a more indietronica groove and gradually building up once again. With vocals that ring like a bell and an addictive switching from electro-pop to rock, the track has lots of ideas that it implements well. Fun and frivolous.
