Chawa Lilith: Euphonious – EP Review

February 2, 2022 by Jamie Parmenter

Chawa Lilith

Chawa Lilith brings a calm and soulful ambience with her meditative new EP, Euphonious.

Relaxation is hard for some. It’s something to be worked on and learned. In our sometimes stressful world, this is why pastimes such as meditation have become so popular, a way to relax and soak in some well-earned mindfulness. Chawa Lilith’s new EP Euphonious could be seen as a powerful accompaniment to bringing some chill into your life, full of gentle flows, meditative vocals and a serenity that helps bring calmness to everything going on around you.

Opening with Good Things, we’re straight away thrown into Lilith’s meditative world as gentle bells, hypnotic vocals and ambient drones build warmly against an ethereal atmosphere. The layering is sleight but somehow feels immense due to the relaxing nature and subtle changes. As the track continues you manage to fall mercilessly into the soundscapes created feeling fresh and vibrant as it comes to an end. It’s almost like a meditation session within itself.

You are Loved follows and treads along much of the same lines, but perhaps with a little more vibrancy in direction. The short runtime makes it feel like more of an interlude for following track Miracles, which, although only slightly longer, is able to encapsulate a feeling of love and relaxation that’s further heightened by playful vocal layers.

Although not completely touted as a meditation record, the EP does have that overall vibe. This shouldn’t put people off who are wary to try because the record does also manage to stand on its own two feet (or sit cross-legged) as a warm collection of sounds and ideas, and who wouldn’t want to feel relaxed now and again? Bouncing is probably the EP highlight, managing to build a synthy ambience, but also using deeper notes and melodies to really bring out a stronger relevance and understanding that can feel missing elsewhere.

The short and sweet Dar Knight makes more use of Lilith’s fine vocal work, making the atmosphere feel more mystical and enlightening before the EP finishes on Hava’s Love. Ending on a slow builder can sometimes be a fault, but the way Hava’s Love is structured gives you the perfect send-off, encapsulating the entire work of the record and starting to wake you up a little from your calm state and bring you back into the real world.

Euphonious from Chawa Lilith is the perfect accompaniment if you are beginning a spiritual or meditative journey, but is also a strong standalone ambient EP to have on in the background while you go about your day-to-day business. Lilith’s ethereal vocals dance around the ambient atmospheres and are able to guide you through a short but powerful journey that will have you coming back for more.

Score: 3.5/5
