Little Mix: Confetti – Album Review

November 9, 2020 by Laura Bevan

Little Mix

Popular four-piece girl band Little Mix have released their newest, and perhaps most confident album, Confetti.

Known for their high energy performances, confidence-building tracks, and girl boss attitude, this album allows you to realise your worth and use your girl power to be the best version of yourself. With both sassy, sexy, and heartsick songs, there is something in this album for everyone, and whilst incorporating fun, upbeat moments throughout, their appealability is still able to reach their younger fans as well as their older ones.

Many of the tracks make you want to get up and dance alongside them, Holiday being no exception. Whilst the sexy bass groove in the chorus is constant without being overpowering, the noticeable off-beat synth chords which are a common feature throughout the entire album keep it lively and interesting.

Little Mix - Confetti

Sweet Melody, and Confetti are darker tracks which make you want to scream their sassy lyrics as you realise you’re better than those putting you down. A feature also seen in If You Want My Love, a dramatic yet highly powerful track that reaches every nerve and feeling in your body.

Of course, it’s not just about high energy and entertaining tracks for this girl band. Not A Pop Song, Breathe, and My Love Won’t Let You Down are all stripped back, ballad-like tracks which are so pure and intense they capture your attention almost immediately. Showing off their incredible vocal range and talent, (also heard in Gloves Up) this four-piece prove they don’t need big instrumental effects to make them sound good, they can showcase their talent all on their own. It is stereotypically rare for a pop band where all members can sing flawlessly so these girls sure know how to bring it.

It’s important for pop stars who are known to attract younger listeners to be able to reach a wider audience and with tracks like Rendezvous and Nothing But My Feelings Little Mix accomplish just this. These two tracks discuss the importance of sexual relationships and with Rendezvous having an underlying Latina sound and Nothing But My Feelings containing the lyric “Laying here in nothing but my feelings” this girl band breaks the taboo of girls having pleasurable desires just as much as men do.

This album is truly show-stopping and I can only imagine how it will come to life when they can perform it live one day. Little Mix are not slowing down when it comes to creating great tracks and I don’t think they will be anytime soon.

Score: 5/5
